Syria questions Israeli account of rocket fire, condemns airstrikes

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs questioned on Wednesday Israel’s claim that two rockets were launched from Syrian territory into the Golan Heights, suggesting that external actors may be seeking to destabilize the region for their own benefit.

“We have not been able to verify the authenticity of the reports regarding rocket fire toward Israeli territory,” the media office of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement to the state-run al-Ikhbariyah channel.

It added that certain parties are working to incite instability in the region to serve their own interests.

Israel launched airstrikes on targets in southern Syria and near Damascus following the reported fall of two rockets in the Golan Heights. The projectiles were allegedly launched from southern Syria.

The ministry asserted that “Syria has not and will not pose a threat to any party in the region,” emphasizing that the transitional government’s priority in the south remains to extend state authority and eliminate illegal arms.

Damascus also strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes on towns and villages in Daraa Governorate, describing them as a violation of Syrian sovereignty.

The ministry added that the attacks caused significant civilian and material damage and urged the international community to assume its responsibilities and act to halt Israeli aggression.

It concluded by stressing the importance of supporting efforts to restore security and stability in Syria and the wider region.
