Syria prepares to rejoin global digital networks as sanctions lifted
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Syria’s transitional government, Abd al-Salam Haykal, announced on Friday that Syria is preparing to reconnect with global digital infrastructure as international sanctions begin to lift.
“We will soon return to the world without proxies,” Haykal stated, referring to the workaround methods Syrians have used for years to access blocked digital services.
He added that the ministry has already initiated contact with major global technology companies in preparation for restoring access to services previously restricted in Syria.
The announcement follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration from Riyadh, during his Gulf tour, that the United States will lift sanctions imposed on Syria. This marks his first visit to the Middle East since taking office.
In a post on his account on X platform, Haykal said, “In anticipation of the formal suspension of U.S. measures, we have established a task force to engage with international tech companies and expedite the technical and legal processes required to restore their services in Syria.”
