ISIS attack kills 2 SDF fighters in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An attack by an Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cell killed on Tuesday two fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the SDF told North Press that militants launched an attack on an SDF military post near the Euphrates River in the town of al-Bahra, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two SDF fighters and the injury of another, while the attackers fled the scene to an unknown location, the source said.

In response, the SDF imposed a security cordon around the town and launched a manhunt for the attackers.

The SDF’s Media Center confirmed in a later statement the loss of two fighters in the attack.

Earlier in the day, the SDF had announced that its forces had thwarted two separate attacks by ISIS cells in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
