U.S. welcomes SDF-Government agreement
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United States welcomed on Tuesday the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian caretaker government, which outlines the recognition of Kurdish rights and ensures integration of institutions.
In a press statement, the U.S. Department of State welcomed the agreement and reaffirmed its support for a political transition in Syria.
“The United States welcomes the recently announced agreement between the Syrian interim authorities and the Syrian Democratic Forces to integrate the northeast into a unified Syria,” the statement read.
The statement added, “The United States reaffirms its support for a political transition that demonstrates credible, non-sectarian governance as the best path to avoid further conflict.”
The Department of State reiterated that the U.S. “will continue to watch the decisions made by the interim authorities, noting with concern the recent deadly violence against minorities.”
On Monday, Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, and Syria’s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, signed an agreement in the People’s Palace in Damascus to recognize Kurdish rights and ensure the integration of key institutions, and sets the framework for joint security cooperation.
