Turkish attacks on infrastructure in NE Syria deepen 2025 budget deficit

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – A senior official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) stated on Tuesday that Turkish bombardment of key infrastructure has led to a significant budget deficit for the 2025 fiscal year.

Siham Qaryo told North Press that the budget deficit reached $264.649.000 million, attributing it to the destruction of electricity, water, and oil facilities by Turkish airstrikes in recent months.

On Monday, the AANES approved the general budget law for 2025, with estimates based on previous fiscal years and projected revenues.

“These funds are allocated to restore these vital facilities and ensure continued services for the population in North and East Syria,” she added.

According to Article No. 3 of the approved budget law, projected revenues for the 12 months ending on December 13, 2025, are estimated at $855.471.000 million.

Meanwhile, Article No. 4 sets total expenditures at $1.09 billion, while Article No. 5 confirms the anticipated budget shortfall of $234.65 million based on spending requirements and revenue expectations.
