Northwest Syria witnesses surge in escalation between conflicting parties

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Areas in northwestern Syria witnessed on Wednesday a surge in shelling exchanges between the Syrian government forces and opposition factions, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front) and other Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA).

Opposition-affiliated media and platforms said that opposition factions had launched a military operation to counter the government forces’ escalation on areas in Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama.

On Tuesday, four people were killed and 14 others were injured when government shelling targeted the city of Ariha in the Idlib countryside, amid a broader escalation affecting several other towns and cities.

They also noted that Russian warplanes had struck the town of Taftanaz in Idlib countryside, though there were no immediate reports on casualties or material damage.

Hassan Abd al-Ghani, military commander of the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, announced the launch of a military operation against the government forces.

Fierce clashes were reported today on the frontlines in the western countryside of Aleppo between the government forces and opposition factions, including HTS.

The shelling and clashes between the two sides spread to the surrounding countryside of Idlib, Hama, and Latakia.

The ongoing bombing in the Aleppo western countryside caused significant displacement in the town of Darat Izza.
