Gunmen attack oil tankers in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Armed individuals, suspected to be affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), targeted on Tuesday oil tankers in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A tanker driver said that the gunmen on motorcycles attacked an oil tanker loaded with diesel near the village of Ruwayshid, north of Deir ez-Zor.

He added to North Press that he responded to the gunmen with a pistol he had, resulting in material damage to the tanker, while the attackers fled to an unknown location.

This attack raised the total number of targeted oil tankers in the area during the current week to four.

The same source noted that less than an hour after the first attack, two gunmen on a motorcycle targeted another oil tanker on the main road in the same town, causing material losses, while the gunmen escaped deeper into the desert.

On Monday, ISIS claimed responsibility for attacks targeting oil tankers near the village of al-Makman near the town of Abu Khashab, west of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in the death of a driver and the burning of three tankers.
