Coalition aircraft strike posts of Iran-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Aircraft of the U.S.-led Global Coalition conducted on Wednesday night airstrikes targeting posts and vehicles of Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A military source linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that three airstrikes hit military positions of the militia in the town of Harabesh, al-Ommal neighborhood and al-Tharda Mountain within the city of Deir ez-Zor.
A fourth airstrike targeted a truck that had crossed from the al-Sikak border crossing between Syria and Iraq, the source added.
The strikes resulted in the killing of three militants, with several others injured, and caused significant destruction and material damage.
The source also noted that dozens of Iranian-backed militants abandoned their positions in Deir ez-Zor, fearing further airstrikes and potential casualties.
On Oct. 8, Coalition aircraft carried out airstrikes on a weapons depot and a rocket platform in the village of Ayyash, north of Deir ez-Zor. The airstrikes came in response to an attack by Iranian-backed militias near the Conoco Oil Field, where Coalition troops are stationed.
