Blast near Syria’s Qamishli airport causes alarm among residents
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city Qamishli, Northeast Syria, heard on Wednesday evening a loud explosion near the Bassel Roundabout, close to Qamishli International Airport.
A witness told North Press that a projectile landed on the main road in southern Qamishli, while activists on Facebook shared an image of a shell they claimed was from the incident.
Another witness reported that the projectile appeared to target a vehicle but missed it. The witness speculated that the source of the shelling could be Turkish forces.
Qamishli Airport hosts both Russian and Syrian forces, with reports suggesting that Iranian-affiliated militias are also present around the area under the government control.
As of now, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
