People of Aleppo, Idlib protest against HTS

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – People of Aleppo and Idlib in northwestern Syria protested on Friday against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).

The cities and towns of Jisr al-Shughur, Ariha, Binnish, Maarat Misrin, al-Fu’ah, Taftanaz and al-Rami in Idlib Governorate witnessed mass protests against the HTS following the Friday prayer.

The people of the towns and cities of Batbo, al-Atarib and Ibbin Sama’n in Aleppo Governorate took to the streets and condemned the HTS.

Local sources told North Press correspondent that the protesters demanded the departure of the HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the dissolution of the HTS security apparatus, and the release of the detainees.

The sources said the HTS militants detained many protesters in Jisr al-Shughur.

Anti-HTS protests have erupted in various areas of Idlib and the countryside of Aleppo since late February sparked by the killing of a man under torture in HTS prisons according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The HTS controls half of Idlib and parts of Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia governorates in northwestern Syria.
