UK receives woman, 3 children of ISIS families from AANES

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Friday that the British government had received a woman and three children of the families of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday

This came during a visit paid by a UK delegation to the AANES Department of Foreign Relations in the city of Qamishli in Northeast Syria.

The delegation headed by Britain’s Special Representative for Syria Ann Snow who was received by Ilham Ahmad and Fanar al-Gaeit co-chairs of the Department of Foreign Relations of the AANES.

In a statement, the AANES said the two delegations discussed the political, economic, humanitarian and security situation in Syria.

Ilham Ahmad said the Turkish attacks on the region have caused major damage to infrastructure and cut off water and electricity to millions of people, the statement added.

She expressed pleasure to the strong relationship between the AANES and the UK, especially in combating terrorism and dealing with the issue of ISIS militants at the detentions centers of the AANES, according to the statement.

The statement read that Ann Snow emphasized that the UK is committed to work with partners, including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), within the Global Coalition to face ISIS and prevent its resurgence.

During the visit, a British woman and three children of ISIS families who were detained in a camp in Northeast Syria were handed over the UK delegation.

Snow praised the AANES for its support and help in facilitating the repatriation of British nationals from Northeast Syria to the UK.

Camps and detention centers in Northeast Syria are full of thousands of ISIS militants and their families who surrendered to the SDF following the military defeat of the terrorist group in its last stronghold in the town of Baghouz in eastern Syria in 2019.

The issue of ISIS militants in Northeast Syria raises significant questions about their future and the international community’s response. Convicting and trying these individuals has become an urgent concern, yet the efforts to conduct trials have encountered numerous obstacles and challenges.

The AANES continues to call on the international community to support establishing rehabilitation centers and help in tackling the security situation in the facilities were ISIS foreign nationals are held.
