Suspected Israeli strike on Damascus injures 8 soldiers

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Eight soldiers of the Syrian government forces were injured on Thursday evening in a fresh air strike, likely to be Israeli, in the vicinity of Damascus, the capital.

Syria’s state-run news agency SANA cited a military source from the Ministry of Defense as saying that the air strike was carried out from the direction of the Golan Heights, an area in southern Syria that has been occupied by Israel since 1967.

The strike resulted in the injury of eight soldiers of the government forces and caused material damage, the source added.

A security source affiliated with the Syrian government told Reuters that the strike targeted a building in the town of Sayyidah Zaynab in the south of Damascus.

The building was operated by the security forces of the Syrian government, and the town is entrenched by the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias.

Israel goes on carrying out air strikes on sites in Syria that are allegedly used by Iran and its affiliated militias, and those of the security forces of the Syrian government.  The strikes have been intensified since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7. Israel claims that the strikes target weapons warehouses linked to Iranian-backed militias.
