U.S. calls to build safe conditions for return of refugees, IDPs in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Embassy in Syria called on Tuesday the Syrian government to create the conditions needed for a safe and dignified return of refugees and IDPs in Syria.
The Embassy affirmed on X platform (previously Twitter) the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 that calls to build safe conditions for a voluntary return of refugees and displaced persons.
“The Assad regime must create the conditions needed for return. All refugees & displaced persons must be treated humanely & with respect for their rights,” the statement read.
In paragraph 14 of Resolution 2254, the Security Council “underscored the critical need to build conditions for the safe and voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their home areas, in accordance with international law.”
The U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254 was unanimously adopted on Dec. 18, 2015. It calls for a nationwide ceasefire and political settlement in Syria.
