Jordan foils attempt of smuggling drugs from Syria, kills 2 smugglers
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Monday thwarting an attempt of smuggling drugs coming from Syria and killing two smugglers.
A military source in the General Command of the Jordanian armed forces said the operation resulted in the killing of two smugglers and the injury of others.
The source added that large quantities of drugs were seized during the operation and were later transferred to the relevant authorities.
On March 19, the Jordanian Customs and General Security Directorate announced foiling an attempt to smuggle 237,000 drug pills at the Jaber border crossing coming from Syria.
Jordan has frequently stated its determination in fighting drugs coming to its territory from Syria and has also targeted drug smugglers in Syrian territory several times as authorities frequently said that drug and arms smuggling from Syria undermines its national security.
