Russian-backed militants, government forces clash in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Clashes broke out on Saturday between Brigade Eight, affiliated with the Military Intelligence Branch supported by Russia, and the Air Force Intelligence Branch affiliated with the Syrian government forces, in the town of al-Musayfirah, east of Daraa, south Syria, resulting in casualties.

Local sources told North Press, “Two militants of Brigade Eight were killed, three others were injured, and a soldier of the Air Force Intelligence was killed, with seven others injured as a result of clashes between a group from Brigade Eight and a group affiliated with the Air Force Intelligence named Mohammed Emad al-Kurdi.”

The city of Daraa and its countryside have been witnessing repeated security disturbances and occasional chaos, despite the announcement by government forces that they have controlled all areas of the city for the past six years.

The sources added that the clashes erupted after the al-Kurdi group set up an ambush to assassinate Hamed Shabana, the commander of one of Brigade Eight’s groups.

They explained that the clashes stopped after Brigade Eight imposed control over all the headquarters of the al-Kurdi group, as they deployed checkpoints at all entrances to the town of al-Musayfirah.
