Iranian officer killed in Israeli strike in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A military officer of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) was killed on Friday in a suspected Israeli airstrike on Iranian positions in the coastal city of Baniyas, western Syrian, Iranian outlets reported.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that Iranian military adviser serving in Syria was killed in suspected Israeli airstrike.
Another Iranian media outlets indicate that the military advisor, Reza Zarei, alongside two militants affiliated with Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah, were killed during the airstrike.
Israel continues launching airstrikes on points in Syria. The strikes have been intensified since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7. Israel claims that the strikes target weapons warehouses linked to Iranian-backed militias.
On Feb.29, an Israeli drone targeted a car in the countryside of al-Qusayr, a city western Homs Governorate, central Syria.
On Feb.28, Syrian Air Defense Forces intercepted Israeli airstrikes on the town of Sayyidah Zaynab in Rif Dimashq Governorate, southwest Syria, destroying a number of missiles.
