French delegation visits oil field hit by Turkish airstrikes in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Saturday a French delegation visited an oil field in the countryside of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, which was targeted by Turkey in mid-January.
The delegation, which consisted of Matthieu Bagard and Marie Dosé from the Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF) organization, in addition to Loran Lopez and Martine Robin from the Collectif des Familles Unies Collective, visited the Awda oil field on Feb. 22 and checked the damages it sustained as a result of Turkish airstrikes.
In mid-January, Turkey launched drone strikes on infrastructure facilities, energy sources, and properties of civilians in areas adjacent to the border in northeastern Syria. The attacks resulted in casualties and a shortage in domestic gas, oil derivatives for heating and transportation, as Turkey destroyed already vulnerable and limited resources of electricity and fuel production.
Badran Chiya Kurd, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department, met with the delegation and stressed that Turkey’s constant threats and attacks against civilians and infrastructure occur unchecked amid an international inaction.
He added that Turkish actions give a chance for the Islamic State (ISIS) to regroup and attack U.S.-led Global Coalition bases and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Meanwhile Bagard said they believe the AANES is making great efforts to ensure the implementation of justice, humanity and equality and the international community needs to work on supporting the AANES.
