Iranian diplomat says Tehran to respond strongly to any attack
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s envoy to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani warned that Tehran would respond decisively to any attack on its territory, its interests, or Iranian nationals outside its borders, Islamic Republic News Agency said on Wednesday.
Iravani’s comment came a day after U.S. President Joe Biden announced he has decided how to respond to a drone attack by Iranian-backed groups in Jordan.
On Jan. 28, three U.S. service members were killed and 34 others were injured in a one-way drone attack that hit a U.S. base in northeas Jordan, near the Syrian border, said the U.S. Central Command in a press release.
“The fundamental policy of Iran [is] to give a strong response to enemies in case they target the country, its interests and nationals,” according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.
On Jan. 29, Six members, including officials, of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Lebanese Hezbollah were killed in an Israeli air raid on the town of Sayyida Zainab, south of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
