Biden decides on response regarding Jordan attack
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he decided how to respond to the attack that resulted in the killing of American soldiers in Jordan.
On Jan. 28, three U.S. service members were killed and 34 others were injured in a one-way drone attack that hit an American base in northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border, said the U.S. Central Command in press release.
Biden confirmed to reports at the White House that he decided on the course of actions he would take in response to the attack.
However, he said that the U.S. does not need “a wider war in the Middle East.”
Biden added, confirming that Iran is standing behind the attack, “I do hold them responsible in the sense that they’re supplying the weapons to the people who did it.”
The Biden administration has been criticized, mainly by Republicans, for not taking firm action in response to the attack.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the situation in the Middle East is “incredibly volatile.”
Blinken added, “We will respond. And that response could be multi-levelled, come in stages, and be sustained over time.”
