Unidentified gunmen target SDF headquarters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen launched on Monday at dawn attacks on the headquarters and checkpoints of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

An SDF military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unknown gunmen attacked an SDF headquarters in the village of al-Hissan in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF checkpoints in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor have been targeted by armed individuals most likely to be affiliated with the Syrian government.

The source added that clashes erupted between the SDF fighters and the gunmen, who withdrew to the other bank of the Euphrates.

In another incident, the SDF announced that an armed individual was killed, another was injured, and the rest of the group fled while attempting to infiltrate the town of Tayyana in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

Government forces and Iranian-backed militias control the western bank of the Euphrates River, while the SDF controls the eastern bank. Media reports suggest that the controlling entities on the western bank exploited the recent events in Deir ez-Zor by deploying armed individuals to attack the SDF.

The military source further stated to North Press that unidentified gunmen targeted an SDF headquarters on the outskirts of the town of Tayyana with a rocket shell, but no damage was reported.

The source added that the SDF thwarted an infiltration attempt by armed individuals trying to cross into Tayyana town from the western bank of the Euphrates.

In the village of al-Jarzi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, an SDF checkpoint near the main road was attacked by unknown gunmen, but no casualties were recorded, according to the source.
