Protesters close Baath-ruling party building in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the Syrian southern governorate of Suwayda closed on Sunday government facilities following calls by protesters for strike and civil disobedience to address people’s demands for living and services.
One of the activists organizing the strike told North Press that the branch of the Baath Party in Suwayda was closed, along with the directorates of Communications, Agriculture, and Education.
For three consecutive months, Suwayda has been witnessing a popular uprising, along with anti-government demands and calls for its overthrow.
He added that the protesters wrote signs on doors of some government facilities, calling for never chanting the Baath Party slogans in schools anymore, and also expressing support for the protests.
This escalatory move, according to some residents, is to support the people’s legitimate living demands, such as securing fuel for agriculture, electricity, and water.
They also stress their commitment to peaceful protests in the al-Karama Square, emphasizing the importance of their political demands for the ousting of the “regime” and the implementation of the UN Resolution No.2254.
