ISIS gains control over posts of government forces in Syria’s Homs

HOMS, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) targeted on Wednesday evening multiple posts and headquarters of the Syrian government forces in the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs Governorate, central Syria, resulting in ISIS gaining control over some of them.

A military source from the government forces informed North Press that “dozens of ISIS militants, riding in four-wheel-drive vehicles, launched a wide-scale attack on more than five axes, targeting government headquarters surrounding the town of al-Sukhnah.”

The source added that the groups managed to seize control of more than eight points belonging to the government forces, capture a number of military personnel, and confiscate weapons and government vehicles.

The clashes are still ongoing near the town, with a significant state of alert among residents. Dozens of government forces have fled, according to the source.

The Iranian-backed factions and the government forces control vast areas of the Syrian Desert and eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, east Syria, which continue to witness increasing activity by ISIS.
