Turkish border guards shoot man, girl in Syria’ Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards shot on Saturday a child and a man while attempting to cross the border along with 25 others near the city of Harem in the north of the city of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

An police official in Harem told North Press, “Turkish border guards opened fire on 27 individuals when they reached the border wall while attempting to cross into Turkey.”

He added that the shooting resulted in the injury of a 12-year-old girl and a 46-year-old man. The border guards then took the wounded towards Turkish territory.

The health condition of the injured is unknown so far, whereas the other 25 individuals managed to escape and return to Harem, according to the source.

The source also noted that the Turkish border guards fired directly at the individuals when they reached the border wall without giving any warning to turn back.

Cases of shooting and detention by the Turkish border guards against Syrian asylum-seekers who escape the war and deteriorating living conditions, are increasing.

In September, Turkish border guards arrested 71 individuals, including five women and four children, while trying to cross the border into Turkey.
