Idlib, Syria (North Press) ـــــ A Turkish citizen in Gaziantep Province in southern Turkey fatally shot on Wednesday a Syrian refugee from the city of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, amid increasing wave of racist attacks against Syrians.
A source close to the victim, Ahmad Mahmoud Saghir, 27, said that he was killed by a Turkish young man while returning home from work in Düztepe.
The source told North Press that the bullet hit below his head. The locals there took him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injury. The reasons for the shooting are still unknown.
On Sep. 18, a Syrian refugee was shot and killed by Turkish men in Adana province.
Saghir, who is married and has a daughter, hailed from the city of Aleppo and had traveled to Turkey three years ago to work.
Recently, there has been a notable increase in racial attacks against Syrian refugees, particularly in Istanbul and Izmir in Turkey. These attacks have coincided with a significant deportation campaign targeting Syrian refugees residing within Turkish territory.
