Turkey deports 760 refugees to opposition-held areas in Syria

TEL ABYAD/IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The crossings in northern Syria recorded on Tuesday the highest daily number of Syrian refugees being deported from Turkey in 2023, with a total of 760 refugees, including women and children.

According to exclusive sources from North Press, the Turkish authorities deported more than 760 Syrian refugees, including women and children, through the border crossings of Tel Abyad, northern Syria, and Bab al-Hawa, northwest the country, and handed them over to the security agencies at those crossings.

320 refugees were handed over by the Turkish side to the security agencies at the Tel Abyad crossing, and they were detained in shelters until further investigation is conducted with them.

The sources mentioned that the Turkish authorities also handed over more than 440 refugees, including women and children, to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front) at the Bab al-Hawa crossing.

The sources indicated that the deportation process took place after the Turkish authorities collected all personal documents of the deportees, and their fingerprints were forcibly recorded on the papers of voluntary return.

Sources from the Tel Abyad, Bab al-Hawa, and Bab al-Salama border crossings reported that the number of Syrian refugees transferred to opposition-controlled areas in Syria has reached about 5,000 deportees since the beginning of September.
