Two people injured by Turkish border guards in northwest Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Two Syrians were injured and four others were arrested on Monday by Turkish border guards while trying to cross the border into Turkey from the village of Khirbat al-Jouz, northwestern Idlib, northwest Syria.

A source told North Press, “Turkish border guards shot two people and arrested four other Syrians while trying to cross the border into Turkey.”

He added that one of the wounded, Ali al-Hamoud, 32, who has bone marrow cancer, had previously attempted to cross legally seeking treatment but met with refusal. As a result, he resorted to smuggling, but the Turkish border guards targeted him along with another young man from a nearby observation point.

The source pointed out that the border guards also arrested four people, including a woman, adding they were taken to a detention center on the border, amid fears for their lives from revenge or torture as happened earlier with other Syrians who tried to cross illegally.
