SNA refuses to free detainees after completion of sentences in NE Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Military Police faction of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) refused to set free five detainees though they completed their sentences in a prison in the city of Tel Abyad north of Raqqa, northern Syria.
An exclusive source told North Press that five detainees, in a prison in Tel Abyad, have completed their sentences of between one year and a half, and two years for previous working within the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) institutions, but the Military Police refused to set them free.
The five detainees were said to be freed on July 6, but the faction interfered and postponed their release until Saturday, and later Qadour Zibari, leader of the faction, also refused to release them.
The source added that the detainees are said to be transported to another headquarters of the Military Police in the eastern countryside of the city in the afternoon.
Three of the detainees were identified Abdulbari al-Nawaf from al-Mayadin, Mehaidi al-Jersh from Hasakah, and Ahmad Yasin from Manbij, according to the source which confirmed that the SNA curbs their release in turn for money.
Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad have been under the occupation of Turkey since 2019 following a military operation launched by the Turkish forces and the SNA factions dubbed “Peace Spring Operation.”
