People protest in Erbil denouncing Syria’s Jindires crime
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – Activists, politicians and civilians organized on Thursday a protest in front of UN headquarters in Erbil, in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), denouncing the crime of killing five Kurds in Jindires, northwest Syria.
On March 20, three militants of Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, affiliated with Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shot to death four people in Jindires as they were igniting Newroz flame. However, another individual died later on after sustaining serious injuries by the militants.
Mahmoud Muhammad, member of political office of Kurdistan Democratic Union in Syria, said, “We [protesters] are parties of Syrian Kurdish and civil organizations, gathering in front of UN headquarters to denounce this coward action.”
Muhammad called for international protection for Syrian Kurdish areas.
Muhammad demanded that Turkish regime must expel all its forces from Afrin and Jindires, return property seized by the SNA factions to their owners and facilitate safe return for those who were displaced from Afrin and other areas.
Protestors raised photos of the victims and slogans calling for ending the Turkish occupation and denouncing the killing of the Kurds by the SNA factions in Afrin.
A number of young women participated in the protests, including Peroin Abdulfarid who stressed its solidarity with the Kurdish people in Afrin and denounced the crime of Jindires.
The protesters handed a statement over to the UN headquarters.
Kawa Nader, an activist, said, “We protest to denounce the terrible crime that happened in Jindires, violating all human rights.”
He called on the UN to expose such issues.
Nader also called on the UN and the international community to interfere to end the Turkish existence in Afrin.
