LNGO in Syria’s Qamishli slams SNA’s crime of killing 4 civilians
QAMISHIL, Syria (North Press) – Afrin Social Association in the NE Syria’s city of Qamishli slammed on Wednesday the killing of four Kurdish civilians in Afrin, northwest Syria, by Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), while celebrating Newroz.
Afrin Social Association called on, in a statement, international and human rights organizations to declare Afrin a demilitarized humanitarian zone, expel all military factions, and follow the safe return of its original inhabitants.
On March 20, Turkish-backed militants killed four Kurds and injured others in the district of Jindires in the Afrin countryside for igniting Newroz flame.
The statement stressed that the process must take place under the supervision of the international community.
Those who committed violations against humanity must be hold accountable for their crimes, the statement read.
Original local population must be handed over the administration and security of Afrin region, according to the statement.
In addition, the association called for the release of all detainees and abductees, and to uncover the fate of the forcibly disappeared people.
The association also called for the entry of media and humanitarian organizations to the region.
Earlier on the day, Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) called for a demilitarized humanitarian zone in Afrin and the expulsion of the SNA factions from the region.
Afrin Social Association was established in Qamishli in November 2021 to help Afrin IDPs and meet their requirements.
