Heavy rainstorm kills child in Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – A child lost her life on Thursday in Kobani, northern Syria, after drowning in a pond formed as a result of the torrential rains that flooded many areas of north Syria.
Muhammad Esmat, 35, the girl’s uncle, told North Press, “My niece Shereen Ahmad Esmat was playing in Botan neighborhood near a pond formed by the torrential rains. She slipped into the pond and died.”
He added that the heavy rains in the past days formed ponds in the neighborhood, some reach a meter high.
The amount of rainfall during the past two days in the city of Kobani exceeded 35 mm, according to the Agriculture Board of the Euphrates Region, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
