Minor quake hits Hawl in eastern Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake hit Hawl, a town about 45km east of Hasakah city, in northeast Syria.

Syria’s National Earthquake Center said in a statement, that “an earthquake, measuring 3.5 on Richter scale, hit southeast Hasakah at 4:54 PM.”

The town of Hawl is located near the notorious Hawl camp, which holds around 50,000 children and women linked to the Islamic State (ISIS).

The center added that another quake, measuring 3.2, hit northwest Latakia, on the Syrian coast.

Aftershocks are still felt periodically in Syria following the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the country on February 6.
