Turkey, Syria, Iran, Russia to meet next week – Turkish FM

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Syria and Iran will meet in Moscow next week, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian wanted to join the talks between Turkey, Syria and Russia, Cavusoglu said, in a joint news conference with Amirabdollahian, “and Turkey happily agreed.”

Cavusoglu said that Astana is the only surviving format to address Syrian issue.

Turkey’s efforts to normalize relations with Syria have developed over the past two months. Late in December 2022, a trilateral meeting took place between the defense ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia in Moscow, marking the first high-level meeting between Syria and Turkey since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011.
