UN sends new humanitarian aid convoy to quake-hit NW Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a UN convoy of humanitarian aid arrived in areas in northwest Syria through Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey north of Idlib Governorate.
An informed source told North Press that a convoy of 16 trucks of the United Nations entered areas held by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly known as al-Nusra Front) in Idlib for quake-impacted people.
The convoy aid was distributed to local partners of the UN in the aforementioned areas, according to the source.
Bab al-Hawa border crossing announced that the number of the UN relief aid arrived in Idlib through the crossing since the fourth day after the February 6 quake up to Friday has reached 447 Trucks all of them were handed over to the UN local partners in the area.
At dawn on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit northwest Syria and southern Turkey, killing thousands and injuring many more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction of buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
The earthquake claimed the lives of about 4.500 people in northwest Syria, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said on Feb. 20.
