Trains collision in Greece kills at least 43, injures 85
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the updated death toll of a head-on collision between a freight train and a passenger train in Greece has reached at least 43 deaths and 85 injury cases.
A day after the incident, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in remarks that the train collision was “mainly due to tragic human error.”
On March 1, a passenger train collided with a freight one head-on at high speed in northern Greece.
The two trains were running on the same line for 12 minutes, and a distance of about 11 miles, according to Greek state TV.
The passenger train was traveling at a speed of about 103 mph when it hit the other one, the TV added.
The two trains were running toward each other on the same track and the force of the high-speed collision derailed multiple cars.
