Women’s Art and Literature Festival kicks off in Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Under the auspices of the Culture Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the Jazira Region (Hasakah Governorate), the 8th annual Women’s Art and Literature Festival was launched in the city of Qamishli on Wednesday. Women from across northeast Syria attended.
The festival is being held at the Muhammad Sheikho Center for Art and Culture in Qamishli city under the slogan of ‘Jin, Jiyan Azadi’ (which means ‘women are life and freedom’ in Kurdish). The festival lasts two days.
Member of the Preparation Committee Botan Hoshi said, “There are 95 women taking part in the festival. There is going to be art, visual arts, handicrafts, cinema and theatre displays.”
Hoshi noted that song and dance activities were excluded from this year’s edition of the festival in respect for the victims of the February 6 earthquake in Syria.
Hoshi added, “We celebrate this edition within activities of International Women’s Day on March 8. We feel deeply saddened by the human losses caused by the quake.”
Displays include photos shedding light on the plight of Syrians affected by the quake, she added.
On Thursday, the festival is set to conclude, and winners will receive their awards.
