Latakia governor publishes final statistics on earthquake
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Amer Hilal, the governor of Latakia Governorate, published the final figures on deaths, orphans, injuries and damages caused by the earthquake.
In a press conference, Hilal said 805 bodies were retrieved from the rubble, while 61 people were receiving treatment in hospitals. About 1.071 people were rescued.
Seventeen children were orphaned by the quake, according to the governor.
About 27.641 buildings were damaged: 105 collapsed during the quake, 6 buildings were demolished by the authorities, 967 are set to be demolished, and 3.833 buildings were monitored and need repairs.
Hilal added that there are now 2.117 families living across 24 shelters.
Around 102 committees, together with 34 engineers and 11 lawyers, are assessing the status of buildings in the governorate, according to Hilal.
Relief and humanitarian aid were distributed to 574.823 people. Seven mobile kitchens provided basic meals throughout Latakia.
