Fire in shelter for quake-affected burns 7 in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a whole family of seven sustained severe burns when a fire broke out in a tent in a makeshift shelter for earthquake-affected people near the city of Darkush west of Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria.
Medical sources told North Press that “An entire family of six children and one woman sustained severe burn injuries when a tent burned in a makeshift shelter for quake-affected people in the village of al-Ghazale in Darkush countryside in northwest Idlib.”
The family was taken to al-Rahma hospital in the city of Darkush, where first aid was given to three of them. Whereas, four others were referred to a hospital in the town of Atma in north of Idlib, which has a specialized burn unit, as their injuries were critical, the sources added.
The fire started as a result of spilling heating oil in a wood burning heater to light a fire, leading to big flames inside the tent, which was extinguished before catching nearby tents.
Shelters were established by setting up tents for homeless people as they lost their houses in the devastating earthquake that hit northwestern Syria on Feb. 6.
