80 Schools Out of Service in Aleppo After Earthquake
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Directorate of Education in Aleppo revealed on Saturday that 80 schools are out of service due to damage caused by the earthquake, while others were turned into temporary shelters for earthquake victims.
A source in the Directorate told North Press that the education process would be resumed gradually after completing maintenance and relocating affected people to Sheikh Saeed housing units south of the city.
At dawn on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing tens thousands and injuring many more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction of buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
As of today, the directorate adopted the double shift system in schools in several neighborhoods. The morning shift for girls and the afternoon for boys.
Aleppo Governorate announced on Saturday that it was relocating affected people from 45 shelters (schools) to centers east and south of the city in order to resume classes.
The Directorate also announced the resumption of classes in schools that were not damaged by the earthquake and do not contain affected families.
