US Blinken to fly to Germany, Turkey, Greece
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken, is scheduled to launch a trip to Germany, Turkey and Greece on Thursday, said Ned Price, the US Department of State Spokesman.
Price, in a statement, added Blinken’s visits will discuss several issues including persistent support to Ukraine, the support to Turkey and Syrian people due to the Feb. 6 earthquakes, and the US commitment to transatlantic security and a rules-based international order.
He will land in Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base on Feb. 19 “to see firsthand U.S. efforts to assist the Turkish authorities responding to the devastation” due to the earthquakes and to thank the government for “its support for cross-border aid to affected areas of Syria.”
At Dawn on Feb. 6, devastating earthquakes hit Turkey’s south and were felt in northwest Syria, killing and wounding thousands in both countries and toppling hundreds of buildings trapping thousands under the rubbles.
Then the US Secretary of State will meet Turkish Foreign Minister and other Turkish officials to tackle the US earthquake-related support and ways to “further strengthen our partnership” with the NATO ally.
In Greece, he will meet Greek Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Leader of the Opposition “to discuss defense cooperation, energy security, and our shared commitment to defend democracy.”
