Syria’s earthquake kills 805, impacts 142.000 others in Latakia
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Governor of Latakia Amer Hilal said on Tuesday that the number of the earthquake’s victims in Latakia Governorate, on the Syrian coast, has reached 805 deaths and 1.131 injuries.
Hilal said, in a statement to the state-run news agency SANA, that 142.000 people were affected by the earthquake.
While the number of the buildings that are completely demolished are 103 ones, and 247 buildings are at risk of falling, the governor added.
Latakia opened 47 shelters and the IDPs started receiving aid since the first day of the earthquake, he noted.
A day earlier, the Media Office of Latakia announced that search and rescue operations for the victims were over in the governorate.
At dawn on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing thousands and injuring much more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction of buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
