Turkish escalation in NE Syria continues for 3rd week of September
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In the third week of September, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions escalated shelling of the areas situated on contact lines north of Hasakah and Raqqa in northeastern Syria.
The Turkish forces violated the ceasefire agreement of 2019 more than ten times, reporting civilian casualties in addition to material losses to public and private possessions.
Following the Turkish incursion in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.
The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area.
On September 17, the Turkish forces shelled the village of Zor Maghar in the western countryside of Kobani, north Syria, with artillery shells.
On the same day, they targeted the village of Umm al-Kheir west of the town of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah.
Two days later, the Turkish forces violently shelled different areas in northeastern Syria, targeting the villages of Qaramogh east of Kobani and Tel Sha’ir west of Kobani.
As a result, the 18-year-old Khalil Bader was wounded, and he was transferred to a hospital in Kobani for treatment.
On the same day, they targeted the villages of Sayda, al-Fatsah, al-Mushayrfa and al-Jahbal Debs, Hoshan and Daghailib in the countryside of Ain Issa north of Raqqa.
The Turkish shelling coincided with artillery bombardment on the villages of Quronfol, Khirbat Bakar, Bir Zannar and Avdoki in the western countryside of the city of Tel Abyad amidst flight by drones.
The Turkish forces also shelled the villages of al-Aboush, al-Tawila and Tel Tawil in the countryside of the town of Tel Tamr north of Hasakah with heavy weapons.
The town of Zirgan (Abu Rasin), north of Hasakah, was also subjected to Turkish shells.
The Turkish shelling of the countryside of Ain Issa, Tel Abyad, Tel Tamr and Zirgan caused material losses to the civilians’ possessions.
The Turkish forces and their affiliated factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), on the same day, hit the village of Karbash in the western countryside of the city of Derbasiyah north of Hasakah, reporting no losses.
On September 19, the Turkish forces shelled Umm al-Kaif north of Tel Tamr with several artillery shells, reporting only material losses.
On September 20 at night, a Turkish drone targeted civilians’ houses in the village of al-Suwaydiyah, in the northern countryside of Ain Issa, causing casualties and material damage to civilians’ property.
The targeting claimed the lives of Khaled Hanifa and Bashar Barakat, and injured Sabri Sido,20, Aziz Zeidan, 32, and Rashid Zeidan, 42.
