French delegation calls for preventing Turkey from attacking northern Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – A French delegation called on the international community on Sunday to support northeastern Syria and prevent a new Turkish invasion of the region.

The delegation visited on Sunday the town of Tel Tamr, which is located on the contact lines between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Turkish forces, north of Hasakah.

It included former French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Bernard Kouchner, writer and researcher specialized in Kurdish affairs Patrice Franceschi, French writer Roxana Damasionovy and representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in France Khalid Issa.

Franceschi told North Press that “Turkey and the extremist Islamic groups have no right to invade the region,” referring to the Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA).

“The real message that we should convey to the international community is that we should keep supporting the regions of northeastern Syria, to prevent Turkey from attacking this region again, at least in the near future,” he added.

The delegation also met with officials in the Tel Tamr local council. The two sides discussed the situation in the region in terms of public services, social relations and the Turkish military escalation in the region.

The former French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said during the meeting that they would try by all means to convey to the international community the reality of the region and the suffering of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He also promised they would provide material support to the areas of northeastern Syria and seek to prevent a new Turkish attack on the region, by putting pressure on European countries and the international community.

During a press conference on Sunday morning, Kouchner stressed “the need not to forget the crisis lived in the region, amid the ongoing conflict in the West.”

This visit comes amid Turkish threats of launching a new military operation targeting the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat under the pretext of protecting Turkey’s national security.
