SDF arrests ISIS sleeper cell leader in northeast Syria’s Hasakah
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the counter-terrorism forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, arrested two members of the Islamic State (ISIS), one of whom was the leader of a sleeper cell, in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
“The ISIS sleeper cell was active in assassinations and planning to target security and military points,” the SDF official website said.
It added that weapons and equipment were also confiscated.
Yesterday, on Sunday, the SDF counter-terrorism forces arrested an ISIS member in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The SDF-held areas in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor occasionally witness assassinations of tribal sheikhs, civil workers and military forces’ members.
Early in August, Luqman Khalil, an SDF commander in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said, “ISIS is still targeting the areas of northeast Syria through its sleeper cells.”
