IDPs camps in northeast Syria experience tragic conditions: AANES official
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The conditions of the IDPs camps in northeast Syria are tragic, said Sheikhmous Ahmed, head of refugees and IDPs Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday.
“The closure of the humanitarian crossings with AANES regions, including Tel Kochar (al-Ya’roubiya), raised the tense of the humanitarian crisis that the IDPs are experiencing in these camps,” Ahmed told North Press.
During the years of the Syrian war, the AANES set up several camps in its areas in northeast Syria such as Hawl, al-Arisha, Newroz, Roj and Washokani.
Following the Turkish invasions on Afrin, Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in 2018-2019, the AANES set up the al-Awdeh, Shahba, Sardam, Afrin, Barkhodan, al-Mahmoudly, Tel Abyad and two camps in Manbij.
Ahmed pointed out that the lack of adopting these camps by the UN had a negative impact on the living condition in these camps.
However, they were promised by the UN and international organizations for the possibility to provide support to the camps of the Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) IDPs.
Two years ago, the Tel Kochar (al-Ya’roubiya) crossing was closed with a resolution issued by the UN Security Council under Russian pressure. Since then, entering aid were limited to Bab al-Hawa crossing in northwest Syria that links Syria with Turkey.
