Joint Russian-Turkish patrol run in Syria’s northern Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Russian Military Police and Turkish forces conducted a joint patrol in the countryside of the city of Derbasiya, north of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
The patrol set off from the village of Sherak, the crossing point of Turkish armored vehicles into Syrian territory 13 kilometers west of Derbasiya, local sources told North Press.
The patrol consisted of three Russian and four Turkish armored vehicles, accompanied by two Russian helicopters to secure the air cover for the patrol’s path.
It roamed the villages of the city before the Turkish vehicles returning to its starting point near the village of Sherak, while the Russian patrol returned to Qamishli International Airport; its main base in northeast Syria.
Turkey signed a ceasefire agreement in the Russian city of Sochi in late 2019 during a Turkish military operation in northeast Syria. The agreement included the conducting of joint patrols, and this patrol is the 49th of its kind in the countryside of Derbasiya.
