Autonomous Administration promises to pay contractor teachers within days
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – An official in the Education Board in Syria’s Autonomous Administration said on Monday that they are working to solve a four-month delay in salaries to non-employee contractors.
According to the statistics of the Directorate of Education in Hasakah region, more than 200 teachers have not received their salaries for the second semester.
Muhammad Saleh Abdo, co-chair of the Education Board the Jazira region, said that the reasons for the delay are due to administrative procedures with the Education Board of North and East Syria.
He added to North Press that approval was issued to pay the contractors’ salaries in the coming days.
Ahmed al-Khidr, an Arabic language teacher at Adnan al-Maliki Secondary School in Tel Tamr, said that he has not received his salary for four months.
Previously, al-Khider’s salary was delayed for six months during the first semester.
Delayed salaries for contractor teachers in Tel Tamr affect 13 teachers of different specializations.
Contract teachers say they need to receive their salaries as soon as possible, because they depend on them to support their families. The monthly salary of teachers contracting with the directorates of education is 200,000 Syrian pounds, according to the contracts.
In April, the Autonomous Administration raised the salaries of its employees by 30 %, but contract employees did not benefit from that increase.
