Syria’s Afrin IDPs demonstrate against recent Turkish attacks
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, hundreds of displaced people from Afrin who reside in the northern countryside of Aleppo, went out on a demonstration denouncing the recent Turkish shelling of their areas of displacement and called on the international bodies to intervene to stop the Turkish attacks on the region.
The Turkish forces and the armed opposition groups have recently intensified their bombardment of villages in Sherawa district south of Afrin, and other areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where a large number of displaced people live.
The Turkish bombardment resulted in the killing of a child from the village Kalotah and wounding two others, in addition to injuring another child in the village of Aqiba, yesterday.
During the demonstration, the participants denounced the international silence towards the Turkish attacks on the areas hosting the IDPs, while the demonstrators raised large banners saying, “Stop the massacres of the Turkish state against the Kurdish people.”
Others carried banners saying: “Whoever does nothing in the face of the genocide of the Kurdish people is a partner of Erdogan.” The demonstration continued from its starting point in the town of Fafin to Barkhodan Camp, which is inhabited by thousands of displaced people.
Hamida Rasho, 45, a displaced woman from Afrin called on the international community “to intervene and stop the bloodshed.”
“We have been facing killing and displacement since the occupation of our city by Turkey and its mercenaries..( ) We cannot protect our children after they forcibly displaced us from our homes,” she told North Press.
Zakiya Hussein, 51, a displaced woman from Afrin, demanded the influential states involved in the Syrian issue and the international community to expel the Turkish forces and its affiliated armed groups from Afrin so that its indigenous people can return safely.
Yesterday, the Turkish forces shelled the villages of Aqiba, Ziyara, Mar’anaz, Ibbin and Soghana, in addition to the town of Tel Rifaat.
Sherawa district, south of Afrin and other villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where Afrin IDPs reside in, are subjected to shelling by the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed groups every now and then.
