Syrian Oil adds slight increase to weekly car owners’ quota of fuel
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources announced the amendment of the amount of filling gasoline for private cars to be 25 liters instead of 20 per week.
The decision, which the residents of Damascus described as a “shy increase,” came after the ministry itself had reduced gasoline allocations for vehicles from 40 to 20 liters due to the severe gasoline crisis.
The ministry has adopted a new crisis management policy that relies on sending messages on mobile phones to inform the vehicle owners to go to receive their allowances from fuel stations since the beginning of last month.
Vehicle owners complained about the new mechanism, saying that nothing has changed, except that they are now waiting at home instead of waiting at fuel stations.
Earlier, the Syrian government promised to improve and secure the fuel adequately, when oil tankers arrive.
Since last month, oil tankers have arrived at the Syrian ports, but the improvement promised by the government has been only five liters per week.
