Raqqa tribes denounce Syrian government’s strife in Qamishli
TABQA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, sheikhs and tribal notables of Raqqa and Tabqa, northern Syria, denounced the practices and the “strife carried out by the Syrian government,” referring to the recent clashes in the city of Qamishli.
“The strength of the fraternal ties of the communities of northern Syria has terrified tyranny and reactionary forces,” the notables said in a statement.
They pointed out that the assassination of Sheikh Hayyes al-Jaryyan “is the greatest evidence of stirring up strife, chaos and hatred among the communities of the region.”
The sheikhs and notables considered the practices of the pro-Syrian government National Defense Forces (NDF) another indicator of the “barbarism of the policy pursued by the Syrian regime.”
Sheikh Ayed al-Barakat, one of the notables of al-Mousa al-Zaher tribe in Raqqa, said that what happened in Qamishli was “strife through which the Syrian regime wanted to destabilize the region and stir up sectarian strife.”
“The regime tries not only to stir up disputes between Kurds and Arabs, but rather between Arabs themselves through supporting some tribes with money and weapons to gain their loyalty,” al-Barakat added.
Clashes between the Asayish and the pro-government National Defense groups in Qamishli, ended with the expulsion of the latter from al-Tai neighborhood.
