Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside suffers from shortage of cleaners

Deir ez-Zor, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, administrative employees in the municipality of Abu Hamam town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, participated in a cleaning campaign in their town to avoid the shortage of cleaners.

“The municipality’s employees participated in the cleaning campaign carried out by the municipality since the shortage of the number of the cleaners caused the spread of garbage,” Abdulkarim al-Abd, co-chair of Abu Hamam municipality, told North Press.

This morning, the municipality started removing the accumulated garbage and deporting the waste outside the town, after the expiration of the contract of one of the organizations that was carrying out this task.

Over the past days, the town of Abu Hamam, which includes about 60,000 people, has suffered from the accumulation of garbage in the town’s streets and neighborhoods.

The municipality of Abu Hamam was established at the beginning of 2020, before that, it belonged to the municipality of al-Sha’eitat, which was established after the elimination of ISIS.

Al-Abd called on the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council and the Autonomous Administration to complete the number of the municipality employees, especially the cleaners, in conjunction with the advent of summer and high temperatures, which causes the spread of insects and unpleasant odors.
